Mu Noodle Bar Chinese Fusion Cuisine in San Juan

If there is one restaurant that I can’t seem to get enough of lately, it would be Mu.  Mu means “mother” in Chinese Mandarin.

The place looks very modern and eco friendly.  I love the way the place is set up despite the small capacity of the restaurant which seats less than 40 people.

I’ve brought friends and family over to Mu since it opened and have been eating there whenever the opportunity presents itself.

One of our favorites is this dish of chilled tofu at Php 180.00  I like the way the softness of the tofu, blends with the taste of century eggs, soy sauce and pork floss.

We also like ordering the XO Radish cake at Php 200 per order.  It’s fried radish cake tossed with XO sauce.  XO sauce is a spicy sauce made from dried scallops.

We also ordered our favorite tarragon tea.  This tea isn’t often in stock, but when it is, don’t forget to order it. Tarragon tea is a refreshingly unique blend of tea, tarragon leaves and lemon.

We love their version of Taiwanese favorite Three Cup Chicken at Php 240.00.  The dish is made of fried chicken pieces in crispy batter with sweet-salty sauce, fried basil leaves, fried roasted garlic and fried ginger slices.

One of my favorites here is the Black Hofan which is basically very soft squid sauteed with hofan noodles and spring onions. It is always served with a slice of lemon.  I’ve had guests surprised by the taste of these hofan noodles and softness of the squids.

We particularly like their take on dessert which is the cuapao custard at Php120.  It is a play on the traditional man tou dessert in China where fried bread similar in texture to the fried cuapao is dipped in condensed milk.

Image

Mu’s take on this all time favorite Chinese dessert  is  four delicious crispy pieces of fried cuapao with generous scoops of horlicks powder and condensed milk inside. The textures and sweetness of the dessert are simply a perfect ending to a meal.

Here’s a sneak peak at Mu’s other dishes on the menu:

I’d also recommend trying out their Char Siu Pork noodle (thin noodles) with soy or shio base and the lamb curry.
